Charcoal Sesame Tofu

We have seen rainbow and unicorn trends come and go as of late, but more recently midnight black eats and drinks have been taking over the world, and Ginger & Co have come up with a magical latte blend of activated charcoal, black sesame seeds and ginger. Think savoury and nutty with a little hit of ginger. It’s great as a detoxifying latte, but I also think it’s the perfect accompaniment to some fried tofu and panko bread crumbs – and so, charcoal sesame tofu was

In a medium bowl, combine panko bread crumbs, Ginger & Co’s Charcoal Latte Powder and salt. In a smaller bowl, whisk together the cornflour and water.

Slice tofu into 12 pieces, starting by cutting horizontally, then into rectangles or cubes. Pat dry with a paper towel or a clean tea towel.

Whisk the cornflour water again in case it has separated and then dip each tofu piece into the cornflour bowl and then into the panko charcoal mixture.

Heat up a skillet with ¼ cup of olive oil to medium heat. Add tofu pieces and fry for around 5 minutes each side, making sure they don’t burn.

Transfer the freshly fried pieces on a plate lined with a paper towel to get rid of excess oil.

Serve with salad, or chop them into smaller bite sized pieces and devour them dipped in some aioli.
